Our most recent event, "Rock, Paper, Scissors, PAINT!" was so fun.  Featuring the amazing works of Emilio Aponte-Sierra and Steve Brouse.  Both create beautiful works in paper, found objects and paint.  They even created instant "wearable art" on our guests!  Click the image below for a slide show from that night....SO FUN.

Finally Fall

Well, as of 10:30 this past Saturday, Autumn had officially arrived in South Florida.  This past weekend was the Autumn Equinox, not that you'd know it by the high 90s temps and nearly 100% humidity.  But, we Southerners can Google images of forests drenched in blazing Fall colors and imagine cool breezes not produced by air conditioners!

October is right around the corner, and we are updating our calendar with shows and events.  Our first Friday show for October 3rd will be fantastic.  Boys 2 Men II will feature works in all media created by Palm Beach County male artists aged 16 - 90!  Curated by Gallery member artist Anthony Burks Sr, this show will spotlight some of the areas finest established and emerging artists. We'll have it all--photography, mixed media, paintings and more.  Opening reception Friday, October 5, 6 - 9 PM.

Next, members artist Betty Wilson and Linda Manganaro are busy preparing for the next group show to be held at CGMSG, Artists Do The Blues, on October 19th.  Another fantastic effort, including artists from all around the county, established and emerging, presenting Blues-inspired works in all media.  Believe me, we'll have some kicking music playing that night!  And, as always, live art demos, great food and delicious wine.  There is still time to join this show--submission deadline is October 9th.  Contact Betty for more information, 561-762-8162.

So, get ready for Fall, and get ready for some great ART!!!

Summer Schedule Heating Up!

Summer is here...in case you didn't notice.  The temps are climbing and the rain is falling--typical summer for South Florida!  So, when you're not on the beach, dodge the raindrops with a visit to Clay Glass Metal Stone!  Our summer schedule is filling up with great events, shows, classes and more.  Last Friday, June 15th, marked the first of our summer "open call" art show series.  Coordinated by Gallery members Betty Wilson and Linda Manganaro, these shows are open to all artists, all mediums.  The first show, The Oddity of the Artist, was fantastic!  Over 30 artists joined, showing original painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and more.  One very special aspect of these shows is the opportunity they offer for new and emerging artists to show their work.  We will be profiling a new artist from these shows each month here on our blog, along with an established artist.  Never shown your work before?  Well, now is the time!  The next show, "The Naked Truth" is scheduled for July 20th.  We'll be posting a link to the admissions form here soon...stay tuned.  In the meantime, feel free to contact Betty for more information about the admissions process.

Lake Worth is gearing up for a fantastic 4th of July celebration on the Avenue.  Family friendly events, contests, concerts, fireworks and even a KISSING PIG will be part of this non-stop fun day downtown.  Click here for the day's schedule.  Be sure to stop by the Gallery and say hello...

Next, we are holding our first Gallery Open House on July 6th, welcoming several new artists to our co-op, including Shannon Torrence, LaReine Marks, Irene Jalowayski, Barbara Keener, David Wood and Susan Saladino.  Come by to meet the artists, see the new works and enjoy a pot luck table of refreshments.

Speaking of LaReine Marks (a fantastic sculptor specializing in nudes), she will be offering life drawing sessions at CGMSG.  Held every Tuesday night from 6 - 9 PM, these classes are open to everyone, no matter your skill level.  Contact LaReine for details and to reserve a spot, space is limited and these classes will fill up quick!  $15.00 per session in advance, $20.00 per session at the door.  We hope to add more classes to our schedule, so stay tuned....

Book Signings, New Shows, Sensational Summer EVENTS!

Well, "Season" may be officially over, but that doesn't mean the Gallery is slowing down one bit!  In fact, we're gearing up for a fantastic Summer, full of new artists, art shows, events and so much more.  The Gallery is restructuring--we're making space available for as many Palm Beach County artists as we can!  You will see many new faces and new lines of AMAZING artwork on our shelves....with so much more to come.

This Friday, May 18th, we welcome Trina Slade-Burks and John Palozzi for an unusual art/book signing event.  Both have created illustrated cook books, filled with delicious recipes and beautiful art.  Come meet these talented artists/chefs, buy a book and turn your kitchen into an edible art gallery!!

Then, it's on to June.  Gallery members Betty Wilson and Linda Manganaro will be hosting a "come one, come all" art show in the Gallery called "The Oddity of the Artist".  This is a great opportunity for new artists to show their works of all mediums (2D and 3D) in the Gallery for a week.  Click here to download the admissions form, and contact Betty for more information.  This show will be one of several held over the summer celebrating the wealth of talented artists right here in South Florida.  So, if you are a local artist interested in showing, PLEASE JOIN US!  And, if you are an art lover, mark your calendar for June 15 - 30th.  Can't wait to see what turns up!!!!

So, as Summer heats up, the Gallery will keep you cool with amazing art, fun shows, and as always, a great place to come hang out.  Stop by soon to see the new work and meet our artists.  See you on the Avenue!!

MARCH MADNESS!

Okay, this post isn't about basketball.  BUT, it is about how crazy the Gallery has been the past few months!  New artists, events, fundraisers, you name it--we do it!  Gallery Director (and wonderful ceramics artist) Joyce Brown wears more hats than a hat-rack.  Did you know that besides running the Gallery, advocating for the town and promoting Lake Worth events, she also hosts a twice weekly radio show in Lake Worth?  Tuesdays and Thursdays tune in to WPBR 1340AM for Joyce's show, from 12:00 to 1:00.  She interviews local artists and businesses while keeping you updated on the many wonderful events going on in Downtown Lake Worth.  It's a fun, loose hour with a "down home" feel.

Next, this Saturday (March 24th), we host one of our favorite fundraising arts/food event.  Do you love handmade pottery?  Do you love free, delicious food?  Then the Empty Bowls for Haiti fundraiser is FOR YOU!  The idea is simple--local artists create handmade ceramic bowls and vessels they then bring to CGMS Gallery.  You come and buy an event ticket ($25.00 in advance, 4 for $80, or $35 on the day of the event).  On Saturday the 24th, come to the Gallery to pick out a bowl you get to keep, AND fill with amazing foods offered by local Lake Worth restaurants!  Stroll the Avenue, pig out, and support the children of Jacmel, Haiti through the Arts Creation Foundation for Children.  100% of ticket sales will be donated to this great organization.  Talk about a win-win!  Every year this event gets better and better.  A great way to spend an afternoon...bring all your friends!!!  Get your tickets now, and come early on Saturday, as the bowls go FAST.  Oh, and BRING YOUR APPETITE!

Next on the horizon is another super-fun, hilarious event.  Our second annual PEEPS Art Show will be held on April 20th.  I won't give away too much here, you'll have to wait for more details, but I can say the Gallery will be covered in sticky, marshmallow art that will make you laugh, and give you cavities.  Stay tuned....

Let's Get DIRTY!

You have to come to the Gallery on February 18th for our first annual "Pottery Throw-Down!". We will have three pottery wheels set up in front of the Gallery, and our talented potters will compete to see who can throw the most bowls, create the biggest and the tallest bowls, and generally throw some mud around! We invite our guests to take a spin at the wheel--just be sure to wear something you don't mind getting dirty! If you've never worked clay on a wheel, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. If you are a potter, come show your stuff and enter the competition!

Finished bowls will be fired and offered for sale during our Empty Bowl Project to raise funds for Haitian relief efforts.

Dog DaZe - What Fun!

Friday was so great in the Gallery! We dedicated the evening to all things canine, and we had a blast. We partnered with Elite Greyhound Adoptions and Paws on the Avenue. Elite brought four greyhounds to mingle with guests and Paws provided treats for visiting dogs, great outfits for our two four-legged models, and dog bowls for our table of human treats! Gallery artist Karen McGovern created hand-stamped dog tags on the spot, donating all proceeds to Elite. As you can see, the Gallery really did "go to the dogs!"

Thanks to all our friends and supporters for joining us, special thanks to Paws, Elite and Durga Garcia, our favorite photographer.

Stay tuned, more great events on the horizon!

CGMS Gallery Haitian Relief Project

Artists of Palm Beach County and Restaurants of Lake Worth Present:
The Haitian Empty Bowl Fund-Raiser
Fill Your Bowls with a Sampling of Lake Worth Restaurants
Saturday, March 20 – 10 AM to 5 PM !!!

Mark your calendars folks, you DO NOT want to miss this event. As soon as the earthquake in Haiti hit, we knew we had to help any way we could. The Empty Bowl Project is a result of a cooperative effort between artists, individuals and businesses in the Lake Worth and surrounding areas. Please join us for this event and help us raise funds for those devestated by the recent earthquake. 100% of all sales will be donated to Haitian relief efforts. Here's the story:

Lake Worth’s Flamingo Clay Studio – Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery reacted immediately to the devastation caused by the Haitian earthquake by sending out a “Call to Artists” for handcrafted ceramic bowls to be sold at the gallery, with all funds raised going to Haitian Relief efforts. Sixteen of Lake Worth’s finest restaurant and food specialty shops will be making samples of their best foods to fill these bowls. The event will take place on Saturday, March 20 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Advance donations for this event are $25 a bowl or four bowls for $80. Donations on the day of the event will be $35 a bowl. All donations in excess of this will be gratefully appreciated.

The call to artists brought a response from all over Palm Beach County. Brian Kovachik, artist and teacher at Jupiter High School PBAU was the first to answer the call. His student is donating 100 bowls to this project. The student of Anita Smith, Royal Palm High School- Nat’l Art Honor Society will be donating 20 bowls and both Bok Middle School for the Arts and Dreyfoos High School for the arts will be pitching in as well. The Ceramic League of the Palm Beaches will be contributing over 125 bowls and the artists of the Clay Glass Metal Stone gallery have pledged over 130 bowls. A complete list of artists and their contributions will be made available in the future.

Through the generosity of the many restaurants and specialty food shops in Lake Worth, each person donating funds to Haiti will receive a bowl that they can keep, and a wonderful sampling of the delicious foods that Lake Worth has to offer. The following restaurants and shops are participating in this event: On Lucerne Avenue: (516) La Bonne Bouche. On L Street (7 N), The Taco Lady. On Lake Avenue: (400 Block) Rita’s Italian Ice and TooJay’s Gourmet Deli. (500 Block) Havana Hideout, Kilwin’s Chocolate and Ice Cream, Nature’s Way Café and Paws on the Avenue (pet treats). (600 Block) Java Juice Bar, Lake Worth Rum Shack, Downtown Pizza, Soma Café, The Pelican and Dave’s Last Resort and Raw Bar. (700 Block) Rotelli’s Pizza Pasta. (800 Block) The Cyber Café.

Throughout the event there will be Haitian Music played throughout the business district. The Cyber Café will have samplings of Haitian food.

The orphaned children of Haiti will benefit from this fundraising event. Thousands of children in Haiti are without families or homes. The despair of these children is monumental. They are in need of shelter, food and a community that will love and care for them. The City of Lake Worth has risen to the task of raising both money and supplies for this effort. In cooperation with leaders in the Haitian Community, Que Osterval, Jean Fritz Altidor and Dr. Ralph Pierre Louis; Joseph Kroll, Public Services Director of the City of Lake Worth; The Downtown Cultural Alliance and The Flamingo Clay Studio will collaborate on the maximizing of funds raised for the cash, supplies and equipment needed to best meet the needs of the children of Haiti.
